Seattle Camp Returns in Winter

For the very first time in Seattle’s history, Camp Gan Israel of Seattle returned for a Winter Chanukah Wonderland.

Camp Gan Israel’s staff from the previous summer, Nechama Dina Shanowitz and Devorah Leah Donin flew to Seattle to run an amazing program, bringing the warmth and light of Chanukah to the children.

The event started off with a skit about the Maccabees, played by professional actors, which brought the children back in time to retell the story of Chanukah. The children went through a ‘time machine’ to see the different activities done in the time of the Greeks.

They were then presented with many different Chanukah booths, where they participated in many Chanukah activities. They got to decorate their own doughnuts, stuff their own dreidels, work on their personal Chanukah sandart, make their very own latkes, and the most exciting thing of all, was to join in an ancient olive press.

Although there were so many exciting things going on, this was just the beginning of their great experience. Following the Chanukah Wonderland, a live concert was presented to all the families of Seattle, joined together by a grand Menorah lighting presented by Shliach Rabbi Sholom Ber Levitin.

Seattle definitely felt the great spirits of Chanukah this winter! A special thank you to Rabbi and Mrs. Kavka for directing this amazing Chanukah winter wonderland experience.
