Before his passing, former Mayor of New York city Ed Koch was interviewed for JEM’s My Encounter with the Rebbe oral history project.
Seated in his office in Manhattan in May 2012, Koch fondly recounted his several interactions with the Rebbe.
Despite their disagreements on social and religious issues, the Rebbe nevertheless greeted Koch graciously, and looked for areas of cooperation.
The interview was coordinated by Rabbi Avrohom Berkowitz.
there is no doubt of who is our Rebbe, everyone will recognize his greatness and nobody cant say the opposite.
The UN is the worst excuse of an organization that could be.
Even many communities that felt slighted by Mayor Koch – such as the African American and Upstate/Suburban New Yorkers – Mourn the passing of this smart, sharp-tongued man. This is perhaps attributable to his magnetic Charisma. He was SO Jewish, SO New York. SO devoted to public service. SO amusing!
His many one-liners will continue to entertain us all for years to come.
He once said the NY Sanitation Dept. should line up the garbage trucks and push the entire United Nations building into the East River. I say Amen!
I think Koch A”H realized the error of his ways as mayor, and especially after 9-11 he tried to make up for it. He was a bit unusual, and of course politics is dirty pool.
There we have it. Thank you COL for
putting this up and answering some of the issues people were discussing in the comments in the previous posting on this subject.
