Over 100 in total participated in iLearn classes this past week in Crown Heights. giving local women the opportunity to further their education in the quiet summer months.
The first course Monday morning was Biur Tefilla with Mrs. Lieberman. So much more than an explanation of the Tefillos—it was a reorientation of the important things in life. She has a knack for putting things in context, adding feeling and fresh explanations to things we take for granted: Why we Daven, who composed the three Tefillos, the rungs on the ladder of Davening…
Why do we say “Boruch Sheim” in an undertone and what does that have to do with the princess’s unbecoming craving? From kitchen chemistry to the four worlds, you really feel like you are in good hands in Mrs. Lieberman’s Tefilla class.
Next up was Mrs. Faigy Yusevitz’s Sichos class. In an intimate setting, we really savored every word of the Sicha. Did you know that Bayis Rishon was different than Bayis Sheni and that it won’t be the same as Bayis Shlishi (it should be rebuilt speedily)?
What does the sicha have to do with a child that doesn’t want to do his homework? Someone asked, “Will we have guides to take us around the Beis Hamikdash?” Well, she replied, we will need to be the guides. We were instructed by the Rebbe to get prepared, and everyone else will be relying on us!
Wow! What else can you say to Mrs. Shapiro’s phenomenal live-the-sicha approach? We went around the table sharing “What would it feel like to you to rely solely on Hashem?” Trust, no anxiety, more giving, doing my part, He is our father … were some replies.
What does Bitachon have to do with the way Dr. Twersky healed himself of a paranoia he developed of answering the phone in his psychiatric practice? How can “Baruch Hashem all is well. It’s all the strength of Hashem,” calm you and make your children feel more secure? You can repeat it as many times as necessary… Or choose another sentence that works for you!
Snippets from other iLearn Classes:
Tanya with Rabbi Silberberg: “Tanya should be called the book for strugglers… We can have all the tools to reach a love and fear in life but if we are bogged down and depressed we cannot win… We will speak about happiness as tool in serving Hashem, but then we will discuss happiness as an end unto itself… as the highest spiritual apex.”
Mishlei with Mrs. Borevitz: “A Nidda state of mind is the biggest curse to a relationship. You can have two people living under the same roof but each live a separate life… You need to let him in… Yes! I am dependent on my husband… He completes me… That vulnerability is very feminine…”
Hilchos Kashrus with Rabbi Green: “If you cut a lemon or an onion with a fleishig or milchig knife the whole onion or lemon becomes fleishig or milchig… When waiting one hour from eating milk to eating meat, it is important to bentch after eating the milchig… When cooking a potato or other non- sharp food (that wasn’t cut with a fleishig or milchig knife) food in a fleishig or milchig pot– that food is not fleishig. You can even eat it after eating milchig if it was a fleishig pot and vice –versa… One should not eat a pareve food cooked in a clean flieshig pot with milchigs and vice-versa…One can wash pareve dishes in a milchig or fleishig sink but do not put them down in the sink, and make sure to wash with water that is not boiling.”
Mrs. Gurary in the Rebbe’s View: “Where does the idea of a Rebbe come from? The Jews in the desert begged Moshe to be their intermediary, their teacher, because the word of Hashem was overwhelming them. They were revived after passing out, but did not want to rely on miracles. Moshe Rabbeinu was not so happy about this. His approach was, “Let’s all be prophets!” They promised to do every thing he would say. They promised obedience. From that day on Moshe Rabbeinu’s life changed completely. He did not go back to a regular family life. Hashem’s voice would constantly speak though his throat. From then on we have the concept of a Moshe Rabbeinu“
This past Monday night there were over 30 participants that came to hear Rabbi Daniel Schonbuch, MFT speak about Shidduchim. Addressing the theme, “How do you know that he is the one?” He spoke about different attachment styles of couples, as well as explored the Myers-Briggs personality type and the Enneagram. Next week’s free Monday night event will be a Farbrengen in honor of Rosh Chodesh Menachem Av. Join us and start off your month right!
Next week’s highlights include a Wednesday night talk by Mrs. Sara Labkowski, “How to find a Shidduch for your child.” Get the inside scoop on navigating the Shidduch maze. Open to mothers and girls.
With sunlight streaming in, what better way to start or end off your day than with like-minded women, learning and becoming better people together?
