Ladies and gentlemen, this show will be multilingual.
An upcoming Chol Hamoed Sukkos concert will be headlined by two Jewish music legends who have become known over the years for their use of separate languages.
Avraham Fried and Abie Rotenberg will be singing some of their classics and new compositions in Queens College in New York on Sunday Night, September 22, 2013 at 7:30pm.
This will be Fried’s first concert since releasing his latest album of all Yiddish songs, titled “Ah Mechaye!”, with newly composed and classic songs.
The Canadian Rotenberg, on the other hand, has mostly been producing music in English since the mid-1970s with a style which has been described as “soft and sweet” with a strong folk influence.
“When you have two legends on one stage – their first time dueting – there are so many possibilities and things that have never been done before,” notes musician and conductor Eli Gerstner, whose company EG Productions is behind the show.
“I am personally such a huge fan of both of these performers,” he told COLlive.com. “I grew up listening to both of them, and they are a true inspiration to me (and I’m sure to everyone else).”
Working with them on the concert, Gerstner says that despite their fame, “they are good people through and through and I am honored to be producing this show. We are using all of our creative juices for this one.”
Queens College is located at 65-30 Kissena Boulevard in Flushing, NY. Tickets are going for $20, $25, $35, $50, VIP. Visit www.jewishtickets.com. Call 718-853-9403 or 347-996-9992 for group rates.
