When Rabbi Mendel Cunin of Chabad of Northern Nevada learned last weekend that it was Ben Meissen‘s bar mitzvah day, his 13th birthday, he thought some acknowledgment of the day was in order.
While it was not the day of the planned ceremony for the event, Cunin decided it was a day to celebrate.
On the way to a Reno Bighorns basketball game, the rabbi’s wife, Sarah Cunin, reached Ben’s family.
They came to the game and, with permission from a team owner, there, on the basketball court, Meissen recited verses from the Torah and the bar mitzvah was finished.
The crowd in the stadium, Cunin said, was “really excited” by the ceremony.
what a great idea! we still miss Reno
