As every year, from Yud Shevat through Yud Alef Nissan, students of Cheder Menachem in Los Angeles worked in preparing a special and most befitting present for the Rebbe in honor of Yud Alef Nissan with their annual Mishnayos Be’Al peh program; together, the talmidim learned and were tested on a total of over 158,864 lines of Mishnayos, Tanya, Siddur and Yediyos Kloliyos.
This number includes: 14,193 Mishnayos – including 219 complete Masechtos and 1,786 Perakim, 14 Sedarim, as well as 168 Perakim of Tanya Baal Peh. (These numbers are a very big Hosafah over the previous years, with over 4,000 more Mishnayos learned than last year, and more than double the amount of Perakim Tanya.
This year’s achievements included Menachem Farkash, 7th grade, who learned the entire Shisha Sidrei Mishna; Levi Greenbaum, 6th grade, who learned Seder Moed and Kodashim, as well as more Masechtos and 13 Perakim of Tanya Baal Peh; Mendel Korf, 7th grade, who learned the entire Seder Moed as well as Masechtos from Seder Nezikin and 6 Perakim Tanya Baal Peh; Levi Mishulovin, 6th grade, who lerned the entire Seder Moed Baal peh; and Yosef Yitzchok Wolowik, 8th grade, who until the end of the Program (י”א ניסן), had been tested on 2 Sedarim, and with the inspiration from the program, continued to learn the entire Shisha Sidrei Mishna Baal peh, completing it just in time for Shavuos.
On Sunday, Gimmel Sivan, a special ceremony was held where the talmidim were awarded Seforim as prizes for their efforts and achievements; The event was held in an auditorium close to the Cheder. Rabbonim, Roshei Yeshivos, Shluchim, Mashpiyim, parents and friends joined together to recognize and congratulate the achievements of the students.
Rabbi Mendel Greenbaum, Menahel of Cheder Menachem, began the celebration by welcoming everyone with a D’var Torah and giving a Yasher Koach to the talmidim. Words of Bracha were shared by Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Shusterman, Rav of Anash in Los Angeles and Chabad N. Beverly Hills.
A special presentation was made to Reb Yankel Ginsburg, the “Zevulun” of the Cheder’s MBP Program, who sponsors the Seforim on a yearly basis, L’iluy Nishmas his father, Reb Dov Reuven ben Dovid obm. The Cheder presented Reb Yankel with a personalized Challah cover, in appreciation for his “covering” the cost of the learning of Mishna (like the Challah cover, covers the Lechem Mishneh (לחם משנה בגי’ למוד משנה עם הכולל).
Rabbi Sholom Heidingsfeld, the coordinator of the Mishnayos Be’al Peh program, announced the accomplishments of this year’s MBP, which was followed by a video presentation showing the Farher given to the Talmidim who learned at least one Seder of Mishnayos by a group of Rabbonim from the City of Los Angeles. This was followed by awarding the Seforim to the 6 talmidim with the highest accomplishmentsv.
The crowd was then treated to the Cheder’s Boys Choir, led by Rabbi Leibel Cohen, which sang a Chassidisher Niggun with a musical accompaniment. After this, every Talmid received a prize according to his achievements.
Some of the Rabonim & Shluchim who attended include: Rabbi Shimon Raichik, Rav of Anash and Rabbi of Cong. Levi Yitzchok, Rabbi Ezra B. Schochet, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Ohr Elchonon, Rabbi Yosef Shusterman, Rav of Anash & Shliach to Beverly Hills, Rabbi Mendel Schapiro, Mashpiya in Yeshivas Ohr Elchonon, Rabbi Nachman Schapiro, Chaver Vaad LeHafotzas Sichos and Mashpiya in Oholei Torah, Rabbbi Eliezer Teitelbaum, Chaver Hanholas Oholei Torah, Rabbi Amram Farkash, Menahel of the Mesivta Ohr Elchonon, as well as Rabbonim and Shluchim from all over Southern California.
The event was dedicated in memory of Yossi Kreiman obm, an almuni of Cheder Menachem, dedicated by his Chavreim.

The reason rewards are based on results and not based on effort:
You can quantify (measure) results while you can not quantify effort
I would like to know the name of the student who put in the more effort than these and did not get recognition.
The oneness and the Sovereignty ,The Strength and the Glory.
Thanks,Moshiach this second.

The Top performers ARE being rewarded for EFFORT, not just achievement: Granted very few children will or can reach the nosebleed heights of all six Sedarim or even an entire Seder even with all the efforts in the world, and these students are unusually gifted B”H, K”AH, but these boys work REALLY hard over MANY years and deserve the recognition they receive. While some skeptics believe that these kids simply have a photographic memory, this is NOT the case; and while they are obviously very blessed intellectually, they put in MANY hours of work, over MANY years. These efforts are… Read more »

Why do we give prizes according to who did the most???
Just because hashem blessed some kids to be bright (and I am not putting down their efforts, trust me I know it’s a challenge for them too) it doesn’t mean the less brighter boys shouldn’t win first place. We should judge by EFFORTS.
Please someone explain this to me…
