With smicha rabbinical ordination becoming a common requirement among single Chabad bochurim, as the Rebbe wished, a new program is taking that knowledge to a new level.
A new Machon Ldayanus, a training institute to become a dayan (rabbinical court judge), will be opening in Atlanta this coming month of Elul, COLlive.com has learned.
Overseeing the initiative is Chabad of Georgia, headed by Rabbi Yossi New, making it one of the few such Chabad institutions in the world.
The first stage will have 4 married men relocating to Atlanta with their wives and children for a comprehensive 3 year learning program, earning them a “yadin yadin smicha” to join a beis din.
Rabbi Dovid Schochet, President of Vaad HaRabbonim of Ontario, and Rabbi Michael Broyde of Atlanta, former director of the Beis Din of America, are among the names mentioned as overseeing the learning structure.
The dayanim in training will be paid a full salary by Chabad of Georgia. They will be involved in the community as teachers and Chavrusot, with the option for their wives to take jobs for additional pay.
Rabbi New is coming to Brooklyn, NY, on March 1-6 to interview potential candidates. For more info, email rabbi@chabadga.com.
Beautiful to see chabad more involved with mivtsa torah…
Yagdil Torah v’yaadir!!
Is Rabbi Lew going to be the mashpia ruchni? I sure hope so!
Seriously, I can’t imagine any young couple in crown heights not jumping at this chance of a lifetime!!!
This is a great move. It will train already high caliber talmidim to go to the next level with their limud.
Rabbi Broyde, though not Chabad, is a tremendous talmud chacham and true ilui when it comes to dayanus.
who is running the rucnyios of the program- giving shiurim ect..?
this is truly a great idea!
Why cant shluchim of rabbi news caliber create kollels at there mokom hashlichus, where young couples can come help out in the community for a year or 2 and get experiance in running a successful Chabad house?
It can be of big use for the Shluchim, and for the young couples as well, who will go from there to become shluchim somewhere else
These types of programs will develop the next generation of Lubavitcher rabbonim, and will certainly produce some world class results.
GO ATL!!!!
