While students at Rohr Bais Chaya Academy in Tamarac, Florida, take a much needed break during the summer to work in camps and develop themselves, their teachers are doing the same.
Five teachers from the Chabad girls school were flown to Boston, Massachusetts to participate in the highly coveted “Facing History and Ourselves” teacher seminar.
They are Mrs. Tanya Rubin, General Studies Principal and math teacher; Shlucha Chanie Lebovics, historia teacher; Shlucha Rochel Holtzkenner, historia teacher; Mrs. Laura Branson, English and American sign-language teacher; and Ms. Chaya Posner, history and historia teacher.
At the seminar, they worked together with 25 other educators from around the country to learn pedagogical techniques to help students relate various epochs in history to their own personal choices.
During the week-long seminar, groups of teachers worked together to analyze Moshe Rabeinu, studying the meaning inherent in Torah as a guide for how and why to intervene and actively take part in history.
The teachers also discussed the Weimar Republic and its downfall, working in various groups charged with creating a visual image of the forces that contributed to the destruction of the Republic and the rise of the Nazism.
They also learned how to integrate a curriculum that tackles identity, membership, and choices into history, English, historia, sign language, personal growth and inreach to become better aware of the link between the individual and society.
Rohr Bais Chaya, which continues on the path of self-improvement undertaken with full accreditation from MSA, AISF, and NAB, has thanked Orloff CAJE, the Rosenfeld Foundation, and Facing History for making the experience possible.
