A full film crew got comfortable Tuesday in front of the Israeli Agudas Chassidei Chabad building in the central Israeli village of Kfar Chabad.
The building, an exact replica of Lubavitch Heaquarters – 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, regularly hosts visitors and tourists, but rarely a production team.
They were filming an advertisment for a new model of the Korean carmaker Hyundai.
Shalmor-Avnon-Amichai, one of the largest Ad agencies in the country, is marketing the car as a New York dream.
“The ad is meant to be taking place in New York,” said Gilad Shneider, Director of Og Productions which oversaw the project.
“This is the only place in Israel that has the ‘look’ of America and that’s why we’re shooting here,” he told the haredi website bhol.co.il.
The crew brought with them a street sign reading Madison Avenue and E 97th Street, a No Standing bus stop and a No Parking sign as well.
On one side of 770 they put up a wall covered with graffiti and the other was covered with wallpaper of the iconic brown-red bricks. A Buick painted as a NYC yellow taxi was parked there too.
“We were looking for these exact bricks and only found them on this building,” said Shira Robs, the production manager.
“In the final cut of the advertisment, which will be just 45 seconds, the building will be seen only from a certain angle,” Robs said.
“Only those who are really familiar with (the 770 building) will know where this was shot.”
Really weird!!!!
Is public property, it belongs to every Jew in the world.
If a Jew will make a living by taking a picture outside 770, then it’s great.
If that picture (or video) will make it to the home of millions of yidden, and will affect them, then EVEN BETTER.
Anyone that can’t see the light in such a simple subject, should consider his whole avodah.
And btw, it’s people like you that cause young people to not feel at home in 770 etc and go look for comfort else where.
very european style in fact!
I’m sure they made a healthy donation to the Rebbe’s favorite charity, not to mention the metaphorical implications. Sort of like all the hippies coming to the Rebbe wearing sandals and raising eyebrows, and the Rebbe welcomed them into the fold. Tracht gut vie et zein gut!-Benveniste,Tsfat
bad way 2 use the rebbe shul??? refer back to #2 for my opinion
WHAT A CHUTZPA! IF ANYONE KNOWS THE HISTORY OF THE PURPOSE OF THE BUILDING IN THE FIRST PLACE AND THEN TO END UP AS A PROP FOR TV!! AND THEN HAVE THEM USE THE BUILDING JUST FOR THE NYC STREET LOOK?? I COULD SEE THEM JUSTIFY IF IT WAS AN AD FOR A HAT OR KEDUSHA WITH 770 BUT FOR THIS!! FORSURE THE VAAD GAVE PERMISSION THEY SHOULD ALL RESIGN AND TAKE DOWN THE BUILDING.
To #12
The grass is greener, but it still needs mowing.
Move to Eretz Yisrael – no point staying in America, especially when you can get just about anything you need and more, there.
are not NY plates. Whoops…..
now that we’ve seen shot from the shooting, let us see the actual video!
Did they all put on Tefillin at least?
Does everything have to be American to sell in Israel? I would love to get out of America and live in EY! I guess the grass is greener on the other side:(
Whenever I visit 770 Kfar Chabad I am approached to contribute – for the light bills etc. and I have always given what I could.I dont believe they would stoop SO low!!!
ok
Is Hyundai the official car of Lubavitch?
sounds like a cheap shot of showing America. I guess that they scould not afford the ticket. Every Israeli knows the building. It massive coverage in Israeli media.
should see 770 and Rebbe
what a bad way to use the rebbes shul
i wonna see it!!!! dont forget to post it when it comes out!!! funny……
they want everyone toi feel welcome to come to 770, how much more when it can help a fellow yid in his parnassah. To help anothrer yid is bgashmiyus and berechniyus
Did they have permission, or is this public property?
If they had permission, who gives it?
