From after Tishrei until Shavous, an average of 25 eighth graders of Cheder Menachem of Los Angeles would make the 20 minute drive from the Cheder to Yeshiva Ohr Elchanan Chabad every Thursday night.
Greeting the eighth graders were bochurim from the Shiur gimmul class, Sichos, refreshments, and a great time.
The Cheder boys were rewarded for coming on time and filling out a questionnaire on the Sicha learned. Once a month the participating eighth graders were treated to a pizza, sushi, or BBQ event. A special farbrengen would be held in honor of chassidic holidays.
This past Thursday night Mishmor 5773 concluded with a special banquet. The event started with a special video presentation made by one of the Cheder bochurim, Moshe Cunin.
The Bochurim were then treated to a Seuda where one of the eighth graders spoke and one of the Shiur Gimmul Bachurim sang grammen. Afterwards all the bochurim were awarded with a special “I love Yeka” T-shirt. Using Sharpie pens they signed each other’s T-Shirt with their names and phone numbers.
What started as a skeptical idea (due to a last minute technical difficulty causing a lack of a proper gift) ended as a great hit. Many of the eighth graders and Shiur gimmel Bochurim knowing about camp Yeka (through having friends and relatives who have worked at the camp) were excited to forgo the traditional type of gift to show support for the camp in Ukraine held for Jewish orphans and underprivileged children.
With wishes for a successful summer and Hatzlacha in starting Mesivtah and Zal respectively the chavrusas promised to keep in touch with each other.
Gratitude is owed to all Shiur Gimmul Bochurim and specifically Mendel Raichik (ben Yanky) for his constant assistance in making sure Mishmar was was run smoothly throughout the year. Special thanks to Cheder Menchem Principal Rabbi Mendel Greenbaum and Hatomim Hashliach Chaim Leiter for their commitment to the success of the program.

Wow! This is amazing. Mimenu Yiru Vichen yaasu. These bochurim gave up a gift they could have received after 7 months earning, just to show their support and Ahavas Yisroel to their Jewish brothers in far off Ukraine. These actions will most certainly bring Moshiach!!
