An impressive show of unity has come to fruition in the southern capital city of Curitiba in the state of Parana, Brazil.
The Beit Chabad has pulled together all organizations of the city, including: Kehila do Parana, Bnai Brith, Chevra Kadisha, Escola Israelita, Federacao Israelita do Parana, Fundo Comunitario, Namat Pioneiros and Wizo, for one purpose ? to bring the Chanuka light in to all Jewish homes.
All the above mentioned organizations together, have come up with the funds to have Chanukah candles dropped off at every Jewish home in the city. This past week, local schoolchildren have already packed over 800 candle sets.
Scores of volunteers are beginning to set out this week, to hand deliver the candles.
?We could have mailed out the candles,? said Rabbi Yoseph Dubrawsky, regional director of mid-south Brazil, ?but we wanted everyone to personally take part in the project.?
“Indeed, this great project gets people to remember an elderly neighbor, a home-bound sick person, or just a long forgotten unaffiliated Jew, to take part of this beautiful Mitzvah of bringing the Chanuka lights to brighten their home and ultimately the entire world,” he explains.
