Hamafitz STaM, a long-time store in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights section, was recently sold, but the former owner is not saying goodbye.
R’ Eliezer Lipa Shapiro, who operated the Judaica store at 361 Kingston Avenue for the past 25 years, has sold the corner shop to Mendel Vogel, a local resident.
“I would like to thank our Crown Heights and worldwide customers for their patronage,” Shapiro said in a May 26 email sent to COLlive.com.
He said Vogel took ownership on May 18, 2010, and “I wish him much hatzlocha.”
But Shapiro is not leaving the scene just yet.
He will be continuing to sell and repair Sifrei Torah, Tefillin and Mezuzahs from the second floor, above the store on the corner of Kingston Avenue and Carroll Street, and will also sell esrogim for Sukkos.
will they keep it as the same store ? or open a different store?
mendel’s an awesome man!! much hatzlacha – and he knows the business too!
Wish them both hazlocho rabbo. The price is nobody else’s business.
since it’s a news story I’ll add my two cents to someone elses business…I hope the new guy will still be allowed to sell Esrogim under the business name it seems like that’s the biggest business there.
What about the kind man who worked at the counter? Does he still have a job with Shapiro or did the new owner keep him on? I hope he’s not out of a job. He has a family to feed and has given so many years to the store. Mr. Slater was always so helpful to me whenever I needed help choosing a gift or wrapping one. Always polite and patient with customers.
mendle is the best….much hatzlacha….
not worth $2 million. plus he needs to pay rent to shapiro and he cant sell esrogim and so on
הצלחה רבה!
