A new Torah written in memory of Meir Shlomo Zaltzman OBM, was welcomed in Toronto in honor of his first Yahrtzeit.
Meir Shlomo, the 7 month-old son of Shluchim in Toronto, suddenly and tragically passed away one year ago. His parents, Rabbi Mendel and Chanie Zaltzman, are directors of development of the Jewish Russian Community Center of Ontario and the branch in Yonge & Clark.
The Torah was dedicated by the Zaltzman’s family, friends and community members, and will be donated to the Shul of the Chabad House – Jewish Russian Community Center of Yonge & Clark.
Over 450 people attended the ceremony, which took place at the Zaltzman home. After the writing of the final letters, a procession left from the house to the Shul with music and dancing through the streets.
Meir Shlomo’s grandparents, Rabbi Yoseph Zaltzman, shliach in Toronto, and Rabbi Reuven Matusof, shliach in Paris France, were both present for the occasion.
