Community charity organization Chevra Simchas Shabbos V’Yom Tov, known as CSSY, has distributed over $140,000 in cash grants to needy families in Crown Heights this month, COLlive was told.
The community charitable organization, founded by R’ Shimshon Stock OBM and run by his son Benji, distributed the cash to families who otherwise would not have been able to afford the expenses associated with the Pesach holiday.
“We pay grocery, meat and fruit store bills,” Stock said. “People go to their local store and shop, and they put it on our account. This way they can shop with dignity.”
Due to the current economic downturn, the number of families requiring assistance is higher than ever before, says Stock.
“This year, nearly 25 families who used to donate to CSSY have turned to us for assistance,” he said. “Families who were once comfortable, now cannot make ends meet.”
Truckloads of donated food staples were also given out free by CSSY and the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council on Wednesday from the Bais Rivkah parking lot.
