The stairway down to the upscale “Cow Lounge” on Rodeo, the only kosher venue along Beverly Hills’ famous Rodeo Drive, was full with the sound of 8th Day classic tunes when we arrived.
Inside we were quickly seated and the setting was amazing: top kosher cuisine and Jewish music’s freshest sound. What was so unique was the “unplugged” and intimate setting. The lounge is small and everyone was able to call out their favorite 8th day song. Singing along was a must. Shmuely and Bentzi sat on bar stools and ran through their hits from their first and second albums.
“I’ve been a huge fan from the beginning,” says Shira Hersh from Los Angeles, “When I heard the 8th day would be there, I knew I wasn’t going to miss it for anything.” What she had not anticipated was a free-style song about the kosher lounge called “The Cow Jumped Over the Moon.” As the mood picked up and people were almost in a musical conversation with the band, Bentzi started playing a new song and asked people their names while Shmuely told a story about the night’s happenings and the mystical meaning of the Cow Lounge.
“I’ve been to many 8th Day shows, and this one felt like a personal show just for us,” said Josh Maher, who had discovered the show from the band’s Facebook. “I was checking the updates and I saw they were having this gig on Rodeo, and I’m just so happy I came and checked it out.”
The band also seemed to enjoy the new setting. “Our next show is for Jewish Teens in Orange County and that show will be plenty loud, so this was a nice setting change for us,” said Bentzi Marcus of 8th day. According to management at the Cow Lounge, 8th Day will definitely be back soon.
beverlyhills princess you dont represent judaism
everyone should keep to thier own “level of purity” and not say what others should do. (How’s that for yelling at someone to stop yelling?) seriously. ASK what you can do to help someone, don’t preach.
People get inspired from goyshe music also! Is that real inspiration? We must keep to a certain level of purity. I totally agree with #9.
to no. 9/ actully
first get ur spelling right u duncehead and 2nd these guyz r gr8 sometimes chaim marcus comes to our shul and im telling you that we (teens) are inspired by this music its gr8
n u know what YOU need a change of style so get up get real and GET A LIFE!
actully i totally agree that they are nisht unziera. This is not what our kids should be looking up too. They should learn from their uncle avremel what chassidish music is. We dont have what to be embarssed that we need to change a style.
For nisht unzere i hold by these guys very much. i saw them at a concert, and they blew the crowd away. Absolute kiddush hashem. I heard the off the cuff comments from many of the crowd who thoguht they were spectacular. Whether or not you want your kids to listen to only nichoaich or not is your business. But thats a differnt conversation for a different blog.
