On Sunday evening, Oholei Torah celebrated their 54th Annual Dinner, which included a special tribute to over 40 classmates of Rabbi Gavriel Noach Holtzberg, slain Chabad Shliach in Mumbai, India.
Rabbi Nachman Holtzberg of Crown Heights, Gavriel’s father, spoke about how special his son was, and the great work he accomplished in his short lifetime.
A moving video tribute of Gavriel was shown, portraying his life as a bochur in Oholei Torah, including interviews with his fellow students, close friends and teachers.
Also honored was Mrs. Phyllis Rosen OBM, who was a friend to Oholei Torah for many years, and passed away recently after a long illness. Rabbi Eliezer Gold spoke about Mrs. Rosen, and announced that the new first grade wing was to be named in her memory.
A Teacher’s Award was awarded to two Mesivta teachers, Rabbi Dovid Kahanov and Rabbi Chaim Lepkivker, who were nominated by their fellow teachers.
Oholei Torah’s own Temimim Boys Choir, led by Rabbi Yossi Goldstein, performed spirited niggunim throughout the dinner.
Rabbi Nosson Blumes, director of programs at Oholei Torah, quoted the Rebbe, saying, after the tragedy in Mumbai, Oholei Torah lost a gem. But as the Rebbe said, “Where one student was lost, we will make sure there will be many. Oholei Torah will continue to grow and produce more Shluchim to continue to go out and change the world.”
